I visited Monticello many years ago but it is so beautiful that it stuck with me. A city full of history that is definately worth the trip.

I recently moved to Charlottesville after spending three years in Norfolk, VA. What a change! Everything is cleaner and friendlier in Charlottesville. People smile at you when you walk around downtown or on the UVA campus. It is just a wonderful place to live and work. Lots of culture. Lots of beautiful nature. Lots of great people!

Charlottesville certainly has a lot to offer. It's scenic and beautiful, and manages to avoid both the over-urbanization of Northern Virginia and the country schlock of Southside. It lacks a few visting staples, like a zoo or botanical garden, but makes up for these lacks with historical sites and ready availability of good food and wine.

Note to people who visiting from out of town: Check out University of Virginia's website and check out when the kids move into the dorms, parents weekend, etc. You DO NOT want to go these weekends, not only is the small town over-run with younger sibilings of the one in college, there is no where to stay anywhere close to Charlottesville.
However, the weeks that the students are out of class is the best time to visit Charlottesville. Just keep in mind that since it is a college town, some things may be closed(mostly on-campus eateries and such).
