Wall-E

WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter - Earth)is the last cleanup robot that has been faithfully doing his work for over 700 years on Earth after it has been “consumed” to death. There are no people or plants left on the planet, only garbage to be removed.

One day Earth is visited by a space ship that leaves a sleek little research robot, EVE (Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator). WALL-E has been alone a long time and is smitten with “her” as she proceeds her survey work. When he presents her with a green plant he has found during his cleanup an automatic response is triggered in her programming that causes her to return to her ship. He follows her to find a ship that had left Earth 700 years ago with human descendants of the original passengers who have been changed by the trip.

The Disney/Pixar production of this story was written and directed by Andrew Stanton. The story is a well done animated feature. There are some subtle messages in the story about over-consumption, physical fitness, and pollution of the Earth (it doesnt get too heavy handed though). This is a cute story if you can believe robots can fall in love(or have gender). Some parts of the story may go over the heads of younger children. My wife heard one small kid say he was bored. I doubt this will have a sequel, but it would be worth having on DVD when it’s available.

I took my 2 grandchildren, ages 5 and 8. They LOVED it! Their eyes were glued to the screen and they didn't move during the entire movie. Usually, they are a little restless sitting through a movie, but not this time!

This was a great movie if you (the parent) watch it first thing in the morning. It was really SLOW in the beginning and the middle. I heard that it picked up in the end, but I was already asleep!
