Our area has been too dry this year. Think I would spend more money watering then I would save.

This year I have chile peppers (Numex Lights, habeneros, scotch bonnets), bell peppers, tomatoes (Mortgage Lifters, Romas, Early Girls), lettuce, strawberries and watermelons.

 

The peppers are doing fantastic, the lettuce turned out bitter this year, so I have been mixing it with baby spinach and bibb, the strawberries did well, and I have 4 watermelons about the size of soccer balls right now.  This was the first year I grew tomatoes in a Topsy Turvy and I am not impressed.  By this time last year I had frozen about 50 lbs of tomatoes.  This year I have only had 1 tomato ripe enough to pick and have 4 others on the vine...on FOUR plants! 

 

WIth peppers I rely on a tomato cage to keep them upright.  I also feed them about once a week with strong coffee and mix the grounds well into the soil before planting.

 I didn't get a chance to grow a vegetable garden this year as we moved to a new city.  But, I have grown cucumbers (to make pickles with).  I tried tomatoes one year; but, it got eaten up!

I plant a garden every year. I live in NC, so I start my eggplant inside 6 weeks prior to last frost. I also plant Zucchini, Butternut squash, yellow squash, greenbeans and tomatoes.

I plant tomatoes.  I freeze them and can salsa.  This year we are trying to grow cucumbers too.

To keep mint from spreading so much try growing it in pots.  We have ours in very large pots and it survived last winter when we didn't bring it in the house.

 This is our first year attempting a garden!

I used to have tomato plants.

I used to a while back and anything that you stuck in the dirt grew like crazy. I also lived in Schoharie County and they are said to have some of the best dirt in the country so I guess I got lucky there. Good luck.
